You may be aware that the old historic Portland stone monumental arch that for years adorned the entrance to Euston Station has been salvaged. Many people would like to see this wonderful old piece of London's past reinstated at Euston when the planned redevelopment there takes place.

I agree with the Victorian Society's views about the proposed demolition of the service wing of Witanhurst. This wing is not only a physical part of this beautiful building, but an integral part of our social history.

A Grade II listed building such as this one should be treated with respect and dignity. When it comes to granting planning permission, there should not be one rule for the rich and another for the rest of us.

I cautiously welcome the proposed improvements by the new owners of Witanhurst in Highgate. This beautiful landmark deserves to be restored to its full glory.

But I am slightly concerned about the level of digging that will be required to complete the proposed works underground: according to the Sunday Times (27 September 2009) "it has been estimated lorries will be taking away the spoil for six months". I look to Camden's planning authorities and the building control department to ensure that restorations are carried out sensitively, and disturbances associated with the building work are kept to a minimum, so as not to blight the lives of Highgate residents.
