Conservatives announce plans to improve home insulation and reward recycling
Parliamentary Candidate George Lee has given his backing to Conservative plans to help families in Camden protect the environment and save money. Policy proposals announced recently include giving rewards to householders for recycling their rubbish and also providing up to £6,500 for home insulation improvements at no upfront cost to residents.
Green Deal: Under the plans, every household will have the right to conduct energy efficiency work of up to £6,500. There will be no upfront cost, as the work will be paid for by much larger savings on energy bills from the improved insulation. This will open up a whole new market in energy efficiency, create tens of thousands of skilled jobs and cut carbon emissions.
Rewards for recycling: A Conservative Government would also scrap the Government’s plans for new bin taxes on family homes. Ministers have already changed the law so bin taxes can be imposed, despite the fact that they have been shown to increase fly-tipping and dangerous ‘backyard burning,’ We would work with Councils like Camden to promote schemes where good behaviour is rewarded, but families are not taxed or fined.
George said, “The Government hits people with taxes, fines and bans, rather than trusting people and encouraging social responsibility. We believe in incentives to help and reward people to do their bit for the environment.”

Third Runway for Heathrow?
Climate change is the greatest challenge facing us all at the moment and air travel has a hugely detrimental impact on carbon emissions in this country. I'm the father of two young children and I want to leave a sustainable legacy for their generation. I hope that together we can kick the third runway proposals into the long grass. Conservatives have promised to abolish the scheme if we win the next election and encourage people to take up more green friendly alternatives, such as high speed rail, instead. This is surely where our future lies if we are to be serious about meeting our climate change obligations. The Conservatives have much improved their green agenda over the past few years and it's vital that this continues into the future.
