As we face up to the scale of Labour’s debt crisis, it is vital that politicians show leadership by making efficiency savings in parliament and other political bodies. The Conservatives will cut the cost of politics by up to £120 million a year by cutting ministerial salaries and perks and reducing bureaucracy. We want to put in place new systems to ensure that spending is transparent, waste is reduced, and the culture of government is changed forever.

Government U Turn on Expenses Legislation
Hours after the Queen's Speech, Gordon Brown was already in full retreat. He refused David Cameron's offer in the House of Commons to help pass the new laws the public demand on expenses reform claiming they weren't needed. Then, after criticism from Sir Christopher Kelly, he U-turned and admitted they are needed!!
It's another shambles and shows that on expenses reform, like so many other things, Gordon Brown still does not get it.

MPs' Expenses
The Conservatives accept Sir Christopher Kelly's report in full. It is important that from now on Members of Parliament should not vote on their own pay, expenses, terms of service, resettlement or expenses packages. This is an essential part of restoring faith in Parliament and politics.
I wouldn't have entered politics if I didn't believe that it can - and must - change for the better. This is the beginning of that journey towards a better tomorrow.
